KENDA sponsored team rider of Androni Diquigiovanni won 19th stage of Giro in Italy   (2010-06-05)

Italy(May 28, 2010)–KENDA sponsored the team rider of Androni Diquigiovanni, Michele Scarponi won the 19th stage of Giro in Italy.
A brutal couple of days on tap in the Giro, as today's 1-2 punch of the Trevigno and Mortirolo climbs, followed by the summit finish of the Aprica were sure to put the hurt on the riders and shake up the GC. Michele Scarponi hung on to the lead group to the stage win.
In the race the five behind were taking stabs at different tempos, but overall looked a bit herky-jerky. Ahead, Scarponi shocked the lead group by coming through for a pull. 10k to go to the finish, and with a minute over the pink jersey group, perhaps he thought it was time to help the effort and maybe take a shot at the stage win.
Basso just drove the pace as hard as he could and then Scarponi made his move with 100 meters or so and took the stage win somewhat easily.
On the day's stage over 195km from Brescia to Aprica, Scarponi was more than three minutes ahead of David Arroyo to move to the top of the overall standings. Other contenders such as Australian road race world champion Cadel Evans, Kazakh Alexander Vinokourov and former Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre also lost three minutes.
