| TIRE
CASING |
 |
SIDE
WALL SHIELD. Kenda’s latest technological improvement
helps prevent side wall cuts or punctures. By applying this
thin layer of a special protective tape to the external sidewall
of the tire, it reduced sidewall cuts, punctures and tears
without adding significant weight or cost to the tire. |
 |
IRON
CLOAK. Kenda’s best puncture resistant material.
Iron Cloak is a layer of material under the tread that runs
bead to bead. In addition to helping prevent punctures, it
also adds strength to the sidewalls of the tire by adding
minimal weight to the tire. |
 |
CASING
ADDED PROTECTION. CAP or CAP PLY as it has been referred
to is an added layer of material that is under the tread area
and runs from bead
to bead. Generally used in Kenda Premium Downhill Tires as
a puncture resistant material designed to prevent pinch flats.
|
 |
IRON
CAP. A layer of material that runs from bead to bead
under the tread to prevent flats. IRON CAP combines some of
the technology from the top of the line IRON CLOAK material
without all the added cost. |
 |
K-SHIELD.
A layer of aramid and ceramic particles inside the tire under
the tread area only. Designed to prevent punctures. This is
Kenda’s base level of puncture resistant material. |
 |
KENDA
UST (UNIVERSAL SYSTEM TUBELESS). Kenda is Certified
by Mavic to build tubeless tires to the UST (Universal System
Tubeless) standards. Tubeless tires offer decreased rolling
resistance for easier pedaling. By eliminating the tube, lower
air pressure can be achieved and the chances of
pinch flatting is eliminated. |
| RUBBER
COMPOUNDS |
 |
Dual
Layer Rubber combines a tacky 42 shore and durable 65 shore
durometer rubber on the same knob for optimum performance
in inclement weather conditions. The softer 42 shore rubber
grabs and holds onto wet roots, rocks and soil and provides
a slower rebound rate for more
control. The 65 shore rubber is designed to add stability,
durability and soil penetration to the pattern and the knob
for consistent performance. |
 |
The
ultimate tread compound. Kenda’s L3R PRO compound (60 shore
A durometer) in the center and the cornering knobs have STICK-E
compound (50 shore A durometer). The benefits are great center
tread life, and great cornering control and grip. Found typically
in Kenda’s
Legends Series and race/performance tires. |
 |
A
slow rebound rubber (50 shore A durometer) for the ultimate
in grip and traction control. The slow rebound rubber acts
like a form of suspension that conforms to the trail, rock
or roots surface instead of bouncing off it. Used primarily
on Kenda’s large downhill (2.35, 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7) tires. |
 |
L3R
PRO. An upscale version of L3R blended together with
Kenda’s high performance Motorcycle Rubber Compounds. Benefits
are extended tread life and
a lighter tire. Typically found on Kenda’s high performance
XC mountain bike tires and road tires. |
 |
L3R
(LOW ROLLING RESISTANCE RUBBER) COMPOUND. Used mainly
in Kenda lightweight cross country (XC) mountain bike tires.
The benefits are Low Rolling Resistance and increased tread
life. Typically a tire with L3R compound weighs less than
the same tire with normal compound. |
